Rusty reunited with his collaborators of Madness Most Discreet for What You Will! In this unique, four-actor production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, the performers learn the entire script and the audience randomly selects who will portray each role at the beginning of each performance. Rusty served as an actor, co-adaptor, intimacy coordinator, and co-director for this production.
What You Will will kick off the 2024 Third Thursday season on May 16, 2024. Rusty made his Chicago debut as Malvolio in Twelfth Night with Midsommer Flight!
The show ran from December 1-18, 2022 at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. Rusty made his Nebraska Shakespeare debut in the roles of Roderigo in Othello and Trinculo in The Tempest!
The Shakespeare on the Green season ran from June 23-July 17, 2022 in Omaha, Nebraska. Rusty returned to GENseng Asian American Ensemble to appear as Atung in Lloyd Suh's The Chinese Lady.
One of the most produced plays of the 2022 season, this depiction of the true history of Afong Moy, the first Chinese woman to arrive in America, is a searing exploration of racism, capitalism, gender, and identity. The production ran from May 5-7, 2022 in Geneseo, NY. Rusty portrayed the protagonist Lucas in Shoyu Tell by Sam Hamashima, a world premiere play for Young Audiences with Lexington Children's Theatre!
Mixing the Japanese word for soy sauce and the elementary school “show and tell” activity, Shoyu Tell is an LCT World Premiere all about good food, best friends, and celebrating the differences that make you YOU. Live and Streaming Performances ran October 2-17, 2021. Rusty tackled another solo play in a Zoom concert reading performance of Jeanne Sakata's Hold These Truths. During World War II, Gordon Hirabayashi, a student at University of Washington in Seattle, fights the US government's orders to forcibly remove and mass incarcerate all people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast. As he struggles to reconcile his country's betrayal with his passionate belief in the US Constitution, Gordon begins a 50-year journey toward a greater understanding of America's triumphs—and a confrontation with its failures.
This co-production between GENseng Asian American Ensemble and Solid Lines Productions was presented live via Zoom May 1-6, 2021. Admission was free of charge. |
